Back Guidelines Basic Terms Testing Principles
There are only two true chemical pool emergencies: the chlorine is too low, or you put WAY too much of something in.
There's a way to avoid this.
Test. Add some. Wait 24 hours. Retest. Add some more, if needed. Remember what you've done.
If you do this for a while, you will LEARN the doses that work on your pool. You do need to know the correct chlorine doses for your pool, because your pool will turn green while you are learning, otherwise. But for the most part, the best way is to "test, add some, wait, retest, remember".
Remember one VERY, VERY IMPORTANT principle: if your test readings are close to what they should be, DO NOT TRY TO ADJUST THINGS!
Wait until you've gotten TWO consecutive readings indicating a problem -- unless the problem is low chlorine. Always add chlorine, if it is low.
But generally, don't try to fix small problems till you are really sure they are a problem.
Of course, you can't do this, if you can't, if your test kits are so bad that your results are way off.
Which is why I'm selling these kits. They are not generally available, though they should be. But they are plenty accurate to allow you to easily care for your pool effectively.
