My list of online swimsuit sites is rather popular. Many of the sites linked from my pages have written to thank me for sending so much business their way. Other sites, not currently listed, have written requesting that I include links to their pages.

But not everyone wants you to come to their website directly from mine!

Patricia Freeman ([email protected]) is listed by InterNIC (see links below) as the owner of the three sites listed above. I don't know much about her, except that she knows how to complain about things by email. Anyhow, over a 36 hour period, she emailed both me and my Internet Service Provider multiple times, demanding that I remove the links to her sites, and threatening that she "we'll have to bill you $10.00 per day, per web site, starting February 22, 1999", if I didn't remove the links.

I don't have a clue as to why she doesn't want you to be able to go to her websites after visiting mine. Apparently, she has her reasons. She hasn't bothered to let me in on them, though.

To the extent that I understand the governing law, her demand is ridiculous: hyperlinks to websites are pretty much public domain information. And my initial reaction, after checking with my ISP, was to simply ignore her.

But, since the purpose of these pages is to help my website visitors gain information online, I figure that if a site doesn't want anyone who's visited my site, to come to their site and buy a suit from them, that's information you need to have! So, I've unlinked the domain listing, and increased the amount of information available!

I did a bit of checking. I didn't find out whether she's someone you'd want to do business with: for all I know, she may be great. But, I did discover a few other things.

As of 2/19/1999:

• She reports she is being sued for copyright infringement by a company called Goodman Media (www.swimwearusa.com).
• The InterNIC domain record for usaswimwear.com lists a phone number for her (713.660.0397) which has been disconnected ( I tried it three times on 2/19/1999).
• None of the other records I found list a phone number at all.
• The domain records I found list only a PO box.
• www.infospace.com does not have a phone number for any "Patricia Freeman" in Houston, TX. (Look for yourself!)
• Neither Swimwearusa's home page (www.swimwearusa.com) nor the orders page (http: //www.swimwearusa.com/ordering.htm) lists any physical return address, nor any contact phone number.
• Neither USASwimwear's home page (http: //www.usaswimwear.com/) not the returns page (http: //www.usaswimwear.com/policy.htm) lists any physical return address nor any contact phone number.
• Neither AvalonUSA's home page (http: //www.avalonusa.com/) nor the returns page (http: //www.avalonusa.com/r&e.htm) lists any physical return address nor any contact phone number.
